The following Philippine native tree seedlings will be planted at our farm in Barangay Libas, Banga, Aklan Philippines: 1. Dao (Dracontomelon dao) - It is a large & fast-growing tree that can grow to 55 meters. The young leaves, flowers & fruit are edible. The wood can be used for light construction & furniture. The municipality of Dao, Capiz is named after this tree. 2. Molave (Vitex parviflora) - A tree native to Indonesia & Philippines. Molave is a premium timber tree. Its wood is very durable & used in high-grade construction (ship building, railroad ties, housing & furniture. 3. White lauan (Shorea contorta) - A fast-growing tree that is being farmed in tree plantations. It belongs to the dipterocarp family, a group of important timber tree species that dominate the lowland forests of Southeast Asia. The wood is used in general construction, furniture & cabinet making. 4. Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus) - A large & slow-growing tree that can reach a height of 40 meters. It is an endangered hardwood tree. The tree is being used in soil improvement, erosion control & watershed regulation. 5. Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) - Philippines national tree. Its durable wood is used for construction, carving, furniture & musical instrument. 6. Kalantas (Toona calantas) - Also known as Philippine cedar. It is the native counterpart of the ubiquitous & exotic Bolivian mahogany. The wood of the tree is used for making furniture & plywood. 7. Betis (Madhuca betis) - Its wood contains substances that are poisonous to termites. Thus, it is an excellent wood for purposes requiring strength & durability (shipbuilding, bridge & railway ties). 8. Dungon (Heriteria littoralis) - Is a large tree measuring up to 45 meters in height & 1 meter in diameter. The tree's tough wood is being used in shipbuilding & in making pilings and bridges. 9. Yakal kaliot (Hopea malibato) - It is a critically endangered species. The wood is very hard making it a favorite material for posts & poles among upland dwellers. 10. Mangkono (Xanthostemon verdugonianus) - Also known as "Philippine ironwood" as it is the hardest tree species in the country. The extremely durable & pest resistant wood is used for construction & furniture. 11. Katmon (Dillenia philippinensis) - is an endemic tree that is a favorite among garden enthusiasts due to its attractive foliage & flowers. Its sour but edible fruit is used in making jams, sauces & as a souring ingredient in Filipino dish "sinigang". The wood is suitable for furniture & cabinet making. Thank you for watching.
