Boss Rally (1999) - Every PC Rally Game

Boss Rally by Boss Game Studios / Southpeak Interactive, 1999. This is an enhanced, renamed, PC version of the N64 Top Gear Rally game. It has a few changes, notably CD audio (by the band Dragline, who later renamed to Dalton Grant), high resolution and an extra, unlicensed, Laguna Seca circuit (not shown in this video). Cars are based on a mix of real-life rally vehicles, plus a few wacky extra cars. Tracks run the standard gamut of road, desert, mountain, etc, but the difference here is they can all be run in sunny, foggy, rain, snow or night conditions. The car handling is particularly twitchy (I'm using keys here, as it was just too frustrating on steering wheel!). Note: this game supports both 3Dfx Glide and Direct3D, but Glide is limited to 16bit 1024x768, so I went for Direct3D instead, hence the 1440p picture quality here. The only downside with Direct3D is that car smoke is very, very white (it blends in better in Glide mode!). Incidentally, if you run the game on modern computers and get an error about the EARsound driver not being loaded, just open BossRally.ini and add this line: PlayMusic=1 This above fix is actually detailed in the game's ReadMe.txt; it switches from EAR to Windows MCI, which has much better support!
