SEATS FEATURED Business: Safran SkyLounge 3 seats Premium Economy: Safran 5810 seats Economy: Safran Z300 seats I have been surprised before on NH117, but I wasn't expecting a double surprise from the event organizer and graphics front-of-house (FOH) of this flight, a.k.a. the crews! No, seriously. Everything was in an upbeat mood on this flight from start to finish. I was able to check in online for this flight and secured window seats at the front economy zone on both this flight and my continuing flight to Seattle, before moving my seat once for the SIN-HND leg when 21K opened up. When I arrived at the airport 2.5 hours before my flight, I went straight to the kiosk to reprint my boarding pass and my bag tag, and even though I wanted and could do it myself, the Changi ground staff immediately came to my assistance. I then dropped my bag, still with proactive assistance from the ground staff members, even when I could do it myself. The whole process took less than 5 minutes, then I headed to immigration, took care of my GST refund, sent my other travel party back to their flight, and headed to gate E8. Seriously. Even the Changi security staff members were all very friendly. The flight was very light-loaded, so despite starting boarding 10 minutes late, by 10:45, the doors had been closed, and we only departed a negligible 16 minutes behind schedule. First impression - the cabin looked brand new despite the plane being almost 10 years old, and the temperature control has improved compared to my previous 2 flights. The seat was also comfortable with generous legroom, and I didn't feel the overly hard back support anymore. It would have been better if the in-flight magazine were in the seat pocket instead of the too-small-sized IFE screen, which was decent, by the way - old and time-inefficient in layout, but great in responsiveness and content. The Wi-Fi was incredibly speedy. I was able to chat with ease. I was served a total of 4 (yes, 4) meals - a rice cracker, a full-set white cod dish, a vanilla Häagen-Dazs ice cream, and a bread. All were presented beautifully, and the taste amplified the presentation. When I said the ground crews were very friendly, the crews were even more so. That total meal count of 4 increased to 5 around 45 minutes before arrival. When I was chatting with my seatmate in Chinese and my friends not far from my row in Indonesian, the crews brought me a surprise dessert they had as a business class extra, as well as an assortment of chocolates. I gave 2 of them to my seatmate, who moved to a bulkhead row throughout the flight before returning (so yes, I had my own couch). I was also given a mini boarding certificate by one of the crew members, whom I misinterpreted as being a bit cold, and I had a chat about Texas and my upcoming NH118 trip with her (all in Japanese), so I was surprised that the crew gave me a second round of surprise - they even called me by my nickname. Thanks to the tailwind, the flight landed more than half an hour ahead of schedule, and I had even more chats with the crews as I took a picture with a third of the crew members. They were the ones setting up the whole group picture (BTS: two of the crews cracked a joke at me when one tried to drag another to either be in the picture or take the picture so the other could join, to both of which she declined), and they were very encouraging when I spoke Japanese with them, expressing how surprised they were with my Japanese skills. I wished them a happy New Year, left the plane, and transferred to Terminal 3, still in awe of this flight. Thank you for watching my video.
