The only way to be safe in the world is to be completely vulnerable, but that's the opposite of what rational thinking tells us and is probably inherently opposed to what most of us learned growing up in our homes. Yet given what we’re experiencing politically, socially, medically, and historically it’s more important than ever to explore and reveal the stories beneath our anger and fear. Only then can we ever really be safe and offer a way out to those still trapped in the crazed thinking that anger is keeping them safe and revealing fear is dangerous. And in moving beyond anger and fear, we discover the only gem worth possessing: forgiveness. Of self and others. Sheila Jenca is a professional writer and facilitator from Los Angeles who believes there’s nothing more powerful than story. She holds an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA Film School and is a 15-year member of the Writers Guild of America. Additionally, she’s been a licensed spiritual practitioner at the Agape International Spiritual Center in Beverly Hills for 14 years. Fresh out of film school, Sheila's career got a boost when she was a Top Ten Finalist in Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Project Greenlight Contest. She was featured on the HBO Reality Series and is fondly remembered as the "blonde who cried" when she didn't win. Sheila’s taught screenwriting at UCLA Film School and the University of Calgary, among others, and was a joke stringer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno; so by all means, if things start dragging in a workshop with Sheila, increase the pressure and make her be funny! In the business world, Sheila teaches team building by exploring the vulnerable underbelly beneath anger and fear. This is not an encounter-type experience. All participate to their level of comfort, which means many will choose not to do so. Yet all team members don’t need to take part for the whole team to benefit. Simply knowing that it’s safe to reveals things like, “I don’t know how to do that” or “Can you help me?” empowers employees to build relationships with one another and supports executive management in creating the internal and external business story. Self-aware employees who’ve made friends with their vulnerable underbelly (whether they reveal it or not,) become more powerful corporate ambassadors which leads to greater revenue due to a stronger more cohesive team. Finally, in addition to the above-pursuits, Sheila occasionally works as a college admissions coach. She is delighted she gets to support both students and parents throughout the arduous college application process, a daunting time indeed. Given enough time, Sheila can convince just about anyone's high school kid to stop smoking pot long enough to study for the SAT. @jencawrites / sheilajenca https://underbellycommunications.com/
