Spotlight (2015) is an award-winning film directed by Tom McCarthy. The film tells the story of Boston Globe reporters in the early 2000s, breaking a major story on sex abuse against children by priests in the Catholic church. The reporters are the Globe’s Spotlight team, a group of four investigative journalists who work to uncover the truth. Spotlight sticks to the facts, with most historical inaccuracies coming from dramatization and compression of time rather than fabrication. This allows the viewer to both understand the story and come to their own conclusions in a way that ultimately leads back to the center characters of the story—the victims who bravely came forward.
