Twin-axial cable One of the most popular types of cables used in various applications from communication systems to meters is the well known coaxial cable. This is a copper conductor-wire insulated from the external conductor or the braiding. The whole structure is covered by an external insulating cover. However there are certain varieties of this structure. A twin-axial cable is one of them. What is the peculiarity of a twin-axial cable? It is different because it has a second inner wire conductor at its centre. It is parallel to the other inner conductor and insulated from it. And of course both conductors are insulated from the external screen-braiding. Sometimes this type of cable is also called biaxial. The main parameters of the twin-axial cable are: a pass band, wave resistance, and signal attenuation. It is used for data transmission, for example, in high-frequency and Ethernet networks. Since there are two conductors, it is possible to transmit data in half-duplex mode. Apart from that today there is a possibility that twin-axial cables will be used with DisplayPort interfaces to connect computers with monitors as well as for connections in home cinema systems.
