Episode 1291 Annie (Doris Speed) prepares to meet Princess Alexandra at the Manchester Festival opening but Hilda (Jean Alexander) can see she is still upset about Billy’s (Kenneth Farrington) departure. Ena (Violet Carson) interrogates Ken (Bill Roache) about Faye-Marie (Jane Casson), and he assures her he has no intentions towards her. Alf (Bryan Mosley) suggests to Annie that she should go on an extended break. With the Rovers bar not stocked, Elsie (Pat Phoenix) is annoyed when Alan (Alan Browning) offers to help carry crates from the cellar. Ena confronts Faye-Marie about her interest in Ken, but she tells her to talk to Tom (David Holliday) about it. Tom tells Ena that his wife simply enjoys meeting people. Annie phones George Bolton (Stanley Page) from the brewery. Ray (Neville Buswell) starts a summer pools syndicate with some of the other residents. The Schofields depart for their flight home to America with a pottery cat from Minnie (Margot Bryant) and a Lowry print from Ena as parting gifts. George Bolton visits Annie and offers to arrange a relief manager while she’s away but Annie admits to him that she’s thinking of giving up the tenancy.
