Felipe De Los Rios, M.D. | Vascular Neurologist, Director of Stroke Program with Miami Neuroscience Institute [TRANSCRIPT]: My name is Dr. Felipe De Los Rios. I'm a vascular neurologist, and I also direct the stroke program at Miami Neuroscience Institute. My specialty is neurology, which looks into how the brain and nerves work with the rest of the body. But within that subspecialty, I look at cerebrovascular disorders, which are neurologic problems that relate to the arteries and veins, be that on the brain or the spinal cord. At Baptist, we have a comprehensive stroke program, both at Baptist Hospital of Miami, but also a stroke program network with the other Baptist hospitals. And it's really a very comprehensive program. We have experts in really everything you could think of related to cerebrovascular disease from vascular surgeons, neuro-interventionalists, neurosurgeons, rehab, the whole spectrum. And it really makes a big difference when you have comprehensive care for stroke, because there's a lot that you can do, both to treat it and prevent permanent disability, also to prevent it. So you wanna have all of the tools at your disposal to lower the risk of having another stroke, and to recover the best so you can make the most of life. Stroke, in particular, is 80% preventable. So there's lots of things that we can do to lower that risk. Some of those things that you can do to lower your risk of cerebrovascular disease, stroke in particular, include checking your blood pressure, check making sure that you don't have diabetes, making sure that you're following a healthy diet, and also regular exercise, checking your cholesterol, then treating that cholesterol if it's high.
