I’ve never seen this on an NBA court… Donte turned into Hulk… The NBA turned into a circus show last night. But we gotta start in Orlando where SGA got busy early. He’s so smooth with the ball, his mid-range feels automatic. Alexander scored 11 of OKC’s first 19 points. But it was in his absence when the Thunder built up some serious lead. The big-men combo of Hartenstein and Holmgren was working to perfection, but so did the back-up guards, Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain. With their MVP on the bench, the Thunder executed an electric 15 to 2 run to go up by 17 at the start of the 2nd quarter. And when he came back, instead of doubling it, they started losing it… Alex what are you doing? You can’t block a shot with your shoe, c’mon! That was hilarious, but the refs had to give him a tech. This instantly reminded me of Taj Gibson who played it out more intelligently I must say. Anyway, let’s continue with the Magic comeback. Desmond Bane caps off an incredible 23 to 6 stretch which got Orlando down to a single point. To turn around a game against OKC that quickly is extraordinary! SGA’s 0 for 5 in the period had to have something with it. But he immediately bounced back in the 3rd, completely dissecting the Magic defense. Shai was a one man wrecking crew, exploding at the start of the 2nd half, totally making up for what was lost in the 1st. Unguardable! Alexander converts the and-1 to take over the lead for his team. 19 of his 40 points came in this period. On the other end, Paolo Banchero was going toe to toe with him all game long, scoring 15 of his 32 points in the 3rd. So, we expected a tough battle in the clutch. Up by 3 with little over 3 minutes to play, Shai took matters into his own hands. With 5 straight points, SGA put his team up by 8 in the closing minutes. And when time came for Banchero to respond, he fumbled the ball… Kudos to Caruso who played terrific defense last night, finishing with a game high +/- of 19 despite scoring only 2 points. And the MVP just sealed the deal on the free throw line on the next possession. The Thunder are red-hot right now winning their 9th game in a row. Moving on to Minnesota where the Wolves were battling the Suns without Anthony Edwards. So, Booker and company took advantage of that in the 1st quarter. Phoenix got up by 11 in a blink of an eye. And Jaden McDaniels took over the assignment of guarding Book, but it didn’t make a difference really. Booker racked up 11 points after just 8 minutes of action, but believe it or not, it took Bones Hyland 4 times less to match his production. HEAT CHECK! A 3 point barrage by Bones to cut the deficit to 3 in a span of 2 minutes. Unbelievable. In the 2nd quarter, the Wolves ramped up their defense to keep Booker and Jalen Green to a combined 2 of 12 from the field. GEEZ! Jalen didn’t learn from it the 1st time, and tried to go over Gobert again, but got denied brutally off the backboard. Rudy was a true anchor inside with 4 blocks and 19 rebounds. So the Wolves took a 1 point lead into the locker rooms. And coming out of it, they maintained the elite defense, while Randle and Dosunmu were the ones making the most damage on the other end. Ayo puts his new team up by 6 heading into the 4th. But before we continue, I gotta show you the frustration of Donte Divincenzo after going scoreless in this game on 0 of 8 shooting. It happens to the best of us Donte, just keep your head up. And that’s exactly what Randle did at the start of the final period. Look at Julius Randle spinning and throwing down the monster jam. And he impressed his kid in the process. That’s great to see. Randle couldn’t be handled in the deciding frame, scoring 11 of his 32 points on a perfect 3 for 3 from the field and 5 of 5 from the foul line. NBA Recap #nba #basketball #okcthunder
