Financial Planning: What is a Financial Plan, and why is it important?

I am Dan Leonard of Marathon Retirement Planning and I will right back to explain that to you. A financial plan is a road map to your financial future.Like any other plan, having it in writing is the key! Many people have an idea of where they want to go, but not many have committed their plan to writing. A financial plan gives you a written goal. Having a financial plan helps you to have what I like to call “command of the facts.” Which means all the numbers in the plan came from real statements, a financial plan based on estimates is not a plan. A financial plan will help you to create: A balance sheet to show you, your net worth. It will give you an idea of what your account values will look like at retirement. It will suggest which accounts to spend money from and in what order to spend it. It can even project what your tax bill will look like in the future I have to put a disclaimer on that; tax laws change, so it is only based on what is so today. It is very likely in the future the tax laws will change. It is ONLY an estimate to give you an idea of what your tax liability might be. Once you know where you stand, you have “command of the facts.” When it comes to planning for your future Knowledge is a Powerful Advantage.
