There’s plenty to love about Pittsburgh’s laid back, unpretentious attitude. But thanks to Mame Kendall, this place is a breath of fresh air. Once, the location was home to a chocolatier, and the molding that runs along the ceiling formed part of a large chocolate waterfall. Mame came in and turned it into a cigar shop about two years ago, adding her woman’s touch by preserving some of the great details that existed before she showed up (like exposed brick, a decorative indoor balcony she uses as storage, and the old chocolate waterfall molding, which she painted to make it look like smoke). The humidor is small, but built well, from solid Spanish cedar, and filled with boutique brands that even the most discriminating smokers can appreciate. If you stop through, make sure you look for the lancero shelf; it’s not often we see tobacconists set aside a special place for this underappreciated vitola. Not subscribed to Cigar Snob?
