PLEASE TURN ANNOTATIONS ON TO SEE RULE UPDATES! Capture the Gem - in its simplest form - is a remake of the popular gamemode "Capture the Flag", except for Terraria. The major difference is that teams get 15 minutes preparation time before they are allowed to fight it out in an attempt to capture their opponent's gem. Red Team is always on the right, and Blue Team is always on the left. The Preparation Time allocated is typically 15 minutes long, however, depending on the specific ruleset/host, this could be subject to change. Pre-Game: Join all CtG games as a new mediumcore character. You may be checked for any additional items bought in, and having additional items can find you quickly banned from various servers. Upon joining, wait for the host to teleport you - do not begin running around collecting items, and do not turn on PvP. After you have been teleported, join your assigned team colour, turn on PvP, and set your bed. Do not leave your house and wait for the host to announce that the game has begun. NOTE: In TShock servers, you can use /p to speak to members of your team if you are not already communicating with them through voice. Use this before the game has begun to share tactics/assign roles. Preparation Time: • Do not cross or PvP across the centre point during preparation time, doing so may cause you to be killed, or you may receive a timeout. • No items are banned at this point in the game, so use them (outlined below) before prep. time is over to ensure you receive their bonus. • You must not alter your gem chest in any way, including moving the gem inside the chest or moving the chest itself. You may, however, use the chest for storage (not advised). • You must not use "hard" blocks (Obsidian, Pearlstone, or Ebonstone - blocks not mineable with a Copper Pickaxe) for your chest defences, or at any time throughout the game. Furthermore, you may not surround your chest with lava. • You should do your best to avoid getting any NPCs (don't place your work bench inside your base). If an NPC does come (usually the Merchant), you must not use him. After Preparation: • You cannot use any of the banned items at this point in the game UNLESS you are using them in a way that will not interfere with your enemy (e.g. killing a slime or getting some ore (Clarified 29/10/13. Thanks Aiden!) • If/when you reach your opponent's base, you cannot destroy their bed, destroy their house, or trap them in spawn. • You cannot intentionally move your spawn point at any point during the game, including creating another bed or setting your bed at your opponent's bed (Added 29/10/13. Thanks Joerockz2!). • If you successfully get your opponent's gem, you must return to base as quickly as possible (you shouldn't spawn kill enemies for fun, for example). • When you have the gem, you are not allowed to go underground with it. You may travel back across a Skybridge you created, however, underground can prove troublesome for getting the gem back to base. • If you found a Magic Mirror in preparation time, you are not allowed to use it in conjunction with the gem to teleport instantly back to base. You can still use this item if you don't have the gem, though. • If the enemy team is attempting to get your gem, you are not allowed to access the chest to intentionally stop them from accessing it. This is abuse of game mechanics (Added 29/10/13. Thanks Khanjiro!). BANNED ITEMS: Gravitational/Invisibility Potions, Bombs, Dynamite, and Grenades.
