Bodycam Footage shows Phoenix Police shot a man with fake gun

On November 5, 2024, officers from the Mountain View Precinct in Phoenix, Arizona, responded to a residential burglary report near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue. The caller reported a man, described as wearing a red cap and grey pants, attempting to climb over her fence from the alley. She also mentioned he was smoking drugs in the area. The first officer arrived and located a man matching the description in the alley near the caller's residence. Shortly after, three additional officers approached from the opposite side of the alley. The officers observed the man with his left hand in his pocket and repeatedly instructed him to show his hands slowly. The man ignored their commands. One officer attempted to use a 40mm less-lethal launcher, but it malfunctioned. The man then drew a gun and pointed it toward one of the officers. In response, two officers fired their service weapons, hitting the suspect. Additional officers arrived to secure the scene, disarm the man, and provide medical assistance. Phoenix Fire personnel were called to the scene and pronounced the man, identified as 29-year-old Rey David Martinez, deceased. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. A firearm was recovered at the suspect's feet, which was later identified as a replica gun.
