Some of the things I used to describe as my personality traits turned out to have deeper explanations in psychology and neuroscience. For years I said things like: • I’m a people pleaser • I work best under pressure • I hate being alone so I must be extroverted • I’m great at multitasking But after learning more about stress responses, dopamine regulation, and executive function, I realized some of these patterns may actually be related to trauma responses or ADHD patterns rather than fixed personality traits. In this video I talk about the psychology and neuroscience behind these behaviors and the research that helped me understand them differently. Topics covered: People pleasing and the fawn stress response Why some people feel like they work best under pressure The default mode network and rumination when alone Why multitasking is often actually task switching Dopamine, cortisol, and motivation Understanding these patterns doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you. Often it just means your brain adapted to manage stress and stimulation. Studies referenced LeDoux, J. (2000) Emotion Circuits in the Brain https://doi.org/10.1146/annurev.neuro... Volkow, N. et al.
