For more music using the Fender Rhodes, inspired by Herbie Hancock and Jamiroquai, check out Resolution 88: https://resolution88.bandcamp.com/music / resolution88 / resolution88 Herbie produced an album called 'Sunlight' in the late 70's, which showcased his use of the vocoder on disco tracks such as 'I Thought It Was You' and 'Sunlight'. 'Come Running To Me' also has Herbie on vocoded lead vocals, but it's a symphonic masterpiece - the string and brass arrangements are fantastic and the sound of Herbie's suitcase Rhodes, recorded direct through a Harrison console, is in my opinion the best sounding Rhodes I've ever heard. That has a lot to do with Herbie's playing style of course, and the voicings that he used. With the Rhodes higher in the mix it might sound a bit unusual to some people because the highest pitches in each chord don't necessarily pick out the melody, but I can tell you this is pretty much exactly what Herbie played, note for note. I'd wanted to learn this track for ages, not just for the immense Rhodes solo (Herbie at the height of his powers) but for the chord voicings during the outro. I should have played into the keys more particularly in that section, but otherwise I'm happy with this take - it's nigh-on impossible to play along the solo precisely in time with the record! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this one - it's one of my favourite Herbie tracks of all time. As usual, this video was recorded: Rhodes suitcase mk1 88 - Apogee Duet (direct from amp outputs) - Logic.
