It is over 5100 years old and the first civilized city of ancient Iran in the west of the country and in the Alvand Mountains. Hamedan was the capital city of the first Iranian government during the Maad dynasty. It used to be called Hegmataneh which is one of the six historical and cultural cities in Iran. Hegmataneh had the main role during the Ashourian, Maad, Acaemenian, Ashkanian and Sasanian dynasties and one of the main ways the Shahi (King) Road and the Silk Road went through it. Valuable archaeological symbols and excavations have been discovered on the Hegmataneh hill, and some of them can be visited at the Hegmataneh Museum. Hamedan province has other historic, cultural, natural and various crafts as attractions too. It is mild in four seasons and there are good facilities which are considered as one of the main tourist targets in all seasons.
