Where do I even begin with this!? I'll start with AMAZING MUSIC :)! The footage is extremely blurry because The only footage of this available is from external tape. Basically for some reason or another it was originally filmed with 4 cameras, but then the director put all 4 cameras on a quad screen and filmed that. I like to think of it as adding to the ligit level of teleporting to the smoky 70's venues after taking down a few pitchers of Lonestar with your best friends. Truly makes you feel as if you were there! Folks these days don’t appreciate just how hard it was to take all the FILM (miles of actual film reels) from an event like this, splice cuts, (supering) which is overlaying 2 clips at the same time, and then accurately overlay the audio track in top of it. That is what I had to do in an editing software to make this even remotely watchable. It took me hours of overlaying and fixing audio... It turned out as good as I was hoping though. I just can't imagine how long it took to edit this in 1974 with little to no technology. Blows my mind! The first 2 songs with Willie and Doug are at the "Lone Star Opry House" sometime between Aug, 1st 1974 and Dec, 1974. (Im guessing closer to Dec based on what everyone is wearing.) We know this because the Lone Star Opry changed it's name to the 'Electric Ballroom" in Jan, of 75. The venue was next door to the famous "Dallas Sportatorium" off of Cadiz and Industrial. Also there that night but not pictured was Ray Wylie Hubbard, Steve Fromholz, and Tracy Nelson who sang "After The Fire Is Gone" with Willie. I really thought Willie was going to bust out some moves on Doug's fiddle but he chickened out! The second bit of footage is from Ray Wylie Hubbards tape at the Alliance Wagon Yard in Austin. Loved seeing Mickey Raphael playing with Ray's Cowboy Twinkies. The Alliance Wagon Yard would tragically burn down not even 2 years later on Jan 4th, 1976 according to an ex-employee. Stating "we had no insurance, we bought Christmas gifts for the employees instead of paying premiums." LOL. Ray Wylie mentions between songs that he had been at the venue earlier in the afternoon shooting promotion clips for the TV show and that he had had "one too many longnecks" and that Willie had to drive him home in his new Chevy Pickup. He then goes on to apologize saying that he went to take a nap and overslept hence why he was an hour late to the gig:). The third clip is from the Ritz Music Hall in Corpus Christi TX. Rusty Wier was on freaking fire that night. There is a director audio track that goes along with the music, and the director says "Rusty just came out of the john sniffing like crazy." definetely seemed like he was on something:). Was cool to see Fromholz, Willie, Mickey Raphael and others join in on that song. Also there that night was B.W. Stevenson but he wasn't in the clip! Finally the last clip is from the Mcfarlin Auditorium in Dallas on Dec, 20th 1974. Was very cool to see Ray Wylie make an appearance with Jerry Jeff and the Lost Gonzo Band. They make you get up and dance with that version of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." Willie was also there that night which was great to see. As a 19 year old from TX, seeing all this footage is both heartwarming and gut wrenching. I just wish I could've been alive to seriously experience it with my own two eyes.
