An elegant "valse lente" by Robert Gaden and his dance orchestra recorded for Electrola on november 19th, 1935. Robert Gaden (1893-1985) was reknowed for his elegant style and the polished sound of his orchestra, as is illustrated by this recording. The theme of this video is the city of Berlin, showing the bustling metropolis as it once was and never will be again... An uptempo rhythm would have fitted the images equally well (and may do so in the future), yet this slow waltz give them a peaceful quality. In the video you will see Berlin during the daytime and at night : Unter den Linden, Friedrichstrasse, Berlin Dom and Stadtschloss (from the air), Potsdamer Platz, Kurfürstendamm, Gendarmenmarkt, the Scala music hall and many others...
