Sanctus is Latin for Holy. (Inspiration: FB3’s “Sanctuary”) The song grows out of my love for Gregorian chant—especially the Sanctus as practiced in Roman Catholic liturgy—where reverence, mystery, and worship are carried as much by silence and melody as by words. This piece is simply an acknowledgment of that love. People sometimes ask, “Are you Catholic?” That depends on how we define the word. In Scripture, Jesus prays that His followers would be one, so that the world would recognize Him through that unity (John 17:20–21). Christianity, at its core, is not meant to be fragmented. The word catholic means universal, and in that sense, the Church is one body. I am not Roman Catholic. I am non-denominational—more precisely, Christ-denominational. My confession is the resurrection. Salvation is my denomination. This is why I’m comfortable singing in Latin, Hebrew, or any language that has carried worship through history. God is not bound to a single culture or expression. Our culture, as believers, is shaped by what the Holy Spirit approves in fellowship with one another. As a teacher and pastor, I wanted this song to share that love across traditions, so the lyrics include translation alongside the original Latin. This version opens my playlist (album). A second version, ending with “Gloria in Excelsis,” will be released later to close the playlist. The music isn’t meant to draw people to my church, but to Christ— and to encourage people to go to church wherever they live, or to make church wherever they are. Both the lyrics and arrangement were completed in December 2025.
