This beach paradise in the North Malabar region of Kerala is the largest city in the region and has a population of over 232,000. Kannur has a rich history that goes back centuries when it was an essential trading center. Later, it was colonized by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British. In this documentary, we’re going inside Kannur’s prominent fishing culture and exploring the fish markets along the shore. We’re also getting an inside look at a rare religious ceremony called theyyam, which combines ancient rituals with dance, mysticism, and elaborate costumes. We’ll also explore Kannur’s vibrant food scene, from the beef chili, patel with mutton liver, and mussel tapioca sold by street vendors, to the succulent kingfish and kalumakkaya at the Seashell Haris Beach Home! Then, we’re taking a road trip north to Kozhikode, and along the way, we’re trying treats like mutton liver, mackerel biryani, and rich and decadent avil milk. This is an Indian food tour for the ages, and it starts right now! Let’s go to Kannur, Kerala, India! Where have you been?
