Jabir Ibn Hayyan - Story Of A Muslim Scientist Jabir Ibn Hayyan full name was Abu Musa Jabir ibn Hayyan, also known as Geber to the Europeans. He was born in the city of Tus in the province of Khorasan in Iran in 721 AD. Jabir studied in Yemen, he returned back to Kufa after the Abbasids dynasty took over. He became a student of Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq. He learned chemistry (alchemy), pharmacy, philosophy, astronomy, and medicine. He became the court alchemist during the reign of Caliph Haroun Al-Rashid. His inventions and discoveries include a perfected sublimation, liquefaction, crystallization, distillation, purification, amalgamation, oxidation, evaporation, and filtration. He also wrote about how chemicals combined, without loss of character, to form a union of elements together that were too small for the naked eye to see. Jabir vastly increased the possibilities of chemical experiments by discovering sulfuric, nitric, and nitro-muriatic acids, all now vitally important in the chemical industry.
