Join Swedish producer and guitarist Fredrik Nordström, the mastermind behind Studio Fredman and a pivotal figure in the development of the Gothenburg Sound, as he shares his insights into the art of creating heaviness in metal music. With a legacy that includes groundbreaking albums from In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, and countless others, Nordström’s work has shaped the sound of melodic death metal and beyond. In this interview, Nordström delves into the sonic and performance elements that define heaviness. From his iconic Fredman Technique for guitar tone to his emphasis on aggression, low-end weight, and sonic density, Nordström reveals the techniques and philosophies that have made him one of metal’s most influential producers. He also discusses his commitment to preserving the authenticity of band performances while tailoring production methods to suit each project’s unique needs. This interview is part of Heaviness in Metal Music Production (HIMMP), a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), grant reference AH/T010991/1.
