From August 25 to September 6, 2025, we embarked on an unforgettable voyage aboard the elegant Viking Saturn, sailing from Bergen to Reykjavík. Before setting sail, we devoted two enriching days to discovering Bergen’s timeless charm. Our first day unfolded among the colorful wooden façades of Bryggen, where centuries of Hanseatic history linger in every narrow passageway. We continued to the bustling Bergen Fish Market, sampled the maritime spirit of the harbor, reflected at the Shetlands-Larsen Memorial, and explored the medieval stronghold of Rosenkrantz Tower, standing proudly over the waterfront. Our second day offered a gentler rhythm. We wandered along the scenic harbor front, visited the historic Nykirken, and discovered a quaint telephone booth reimagined as a free book exchange — a small but delightful symbol of the city’s character. At Den Nationale Scene, we paused beside the statue of Henrik Ibsen, honoring Norway’s literary legacy. From there, we enjoyed a picturesque stroll through Ole Bull Plass, past the Music Pavilion and Festival Plaza, and around the serene waters of Lille Lungegårdsvannet. Together, these moments created a vivid and memorable introduction to Bergen — a city where history, culture, and natural beauty intertwine — before we continued our remarkable journey toward Iceland.
