Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Wildwood 10 1962 Telecaster Custom by Greg Fessler • SN: R98669

Greg Fessler imbues each and every one of his guitars with a distinct personality, and this particular '62 Telecaster is smooth and muscular! The bridge pickup responds to your attack with immediate piano-like springiness, and though it has a midrange-forward voice, I'd hesitate to call it punchy. I'd rather say it hits your ear drum like a bowling ball: though it definitely packs a hefty wallop, it's quite round. Though you can pull some bite out of the mids, they are definitely smoother and broader than is normal. This gives each note lots of weight and presence, and it makes chords sound thick without sacrificing clarity. By contrast, the neck pickup is much more mild-mannered, though no less inspiring. It has smooth, woody lows and glassy highs. There's also some vocal quack in the upper midrange that reminds me of a woodier, rounder Strat neck pickup. This sound is perfect for any and all things mellow and jazzy, and it's so clear that playing thick, distorted riffs is a joy.
