On August 23, 2025, at 20:28 hours, E35, E4, and BC31 were dispatched to a reported cardiac arrest in Station 31’s area. SQ31 cleared a previous call and responded in place of E4. Upon arrival, crews learned that an 8-year-old boy had been found unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool. Prior to the fire district’s arrival, a 9th-grade student from Hockinson High School, Brody Walton, recognized the emergency and immediately pulled the child from the water. Also on scene was John Moesly, an off-duty VFD firefighter, who stepped in without hesitation and began providing lifesaving care, including rescue breaths. The quick thinking, courage, and decisive actions taken by these two individuals before emergency responders arrived directly contributed to a successful outcome. Their willingness to act, without regard for themselves, exemplifies the very best of community service and public safety. Fire District 3 is proud to recognize Brody Walton and John Moesly with the Life-Saving Commendation, in appreciation of their actions, their composure under pressure, and their commitment to helping others in a moment when it mattered most.
