Growing Celosia from Seed? You Need to Know THIS! Common names: Cockscomb, Cockscomb Celosia, Fairy Fountain, Feathered Amaranth, Woolflower Celosia varieties are generally divided into three types: plume (Celosia plumosa), cockscomb (Celosia cristata), or wheat (Celosia spicata). Growing here, I believe, is a mixture of more than one variety, but I neglected to label the stems - so I guess I'll find out which ones I collected when they flower! Note: Most web sites recommend burying seeds about 1/4" (1/2 cm) below the soil. In one pot I placed them on top, and in other starter containers, I buried them as recommended. To be honest, I did not experience much of a difference in germination success rates. But, to be safe, I'd suggest you cover your seeds with at least a thin layer of soil. I suggest you plant A LOT of seed to beat low germination rates. Plants should be spaced about 8-12 inches apart depending on cultivar. Celosia is not harmful to animals if eaten. Celosia isn't considered an invasive plant, though it can self-seed. Celosia blooms for up to 10 weeks, and it will live until the first frost. Celosia usually experiences no disease or insect problems. It was my experience that YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS: Very low germination rate. Don't be surprised if you only get a 10-15% success rate Seeds can take a long time to germinate. Some seeds will start growing in a week or so, but others can take 3-4 weeks for germination Keep it warm. Celosia like a warm and humid climate so try to keep your seeds above 70°F/21°C, and ideally even warmer Key Points: #1: 00:34 Remove seeds from seed stem #2: 01:01 Plant into starter container #3: 03:15 Seedlings after 3+ weeks #4: 05:33 Conclusion - you NEED to know THIS For all my gardening videos please visit my Garden Playlist: • Garden Playlist Tech Playlist: • Computer & Tech Tutorials Playlist Life Playlist: • DIY and General Misc Videos - Public Lucky Dog Traveler Homepage: / @luckydogtraveler Tags: #GrowCelosiaFromSeed #GrowCelosia Celosia cristata Celosia spicata Celosia plumosa How to grow Celosia seeds Is celosia easy to grow from seed?
