Guido Reni - also known as "the divine Guido" - was an Italian painter, fresco artist and etcher of the Bolognese school and one of the most famous Baroque artists of the seventeenth century. He was born in 1575 in Bologna, Italy, where he studied at the Academy. As he received many commissions from churches, princes and celebrities, he earned a lot of money and lived on a large scale. His gambling addiction repeatedly got him into financial difficulties and it happened that he quickly painted a few pictures of not very good quality out of financial necessity. He had a close relationship with his mother, of whom he also painted a portrait. Otherwise, he is said to have been rather suspicious of women. He died at the age of 66 in 1642 of an unknown cause. His paintings include religious, mythological and historical subjects as well as portraits. He developed his own style, with technical finesse, an elegance of composition and an impressive expression of emotion. He was also influenced by the works of the Renaissance painters Raphael and Carracci. His works are characterized by their soft colors, soft lines and a delicate, almost ethereal quality. He mastered the technique of painting light and shadow and created works with a strong emotional aura. One of his most famous works is "The Aurora". It captivates with its artistic execution and vibrant color palette. The painting "The Triumph of Samson" also shows his ability to depict movement and expression. It is also praised for its powerful composition and virtuoso depiction of the human body. It is estimated that he created more than three hundred paintings in total. He also had a great influence on subsequent religious art and is now considered an important representative of Italian Baroque.
