A transcript of the video follows: STEPHEN MOLLIER: My name's Stephen Mollier I'm part of the Uniformed Public Services course at East Durham College. MAXINE HENDRY: My name's Maxine Hendry I'm doing Uniformed Public Services and I'm at East Durham College. JILL DRAPER: I'm Jill Draper and I'm a lecturer in Uniformed Public Services here at East Durham College. JILL: Any student coming on to the course here at the College can look forward to a number of lectures within the College environment, following the BTEC curriculum for the Uniformed Public Services course. In addition to that lots of visits out to the various public services and other partner organisations to continue to improve on that knowledge. STEPHEN: I wanted to be a Police Officer and I thought this would be the best route to prepare me for a life in the Police service as my knowledge is limited and this is a good way to better that knowledge. What made me pick this college was that is was a brand new facilities and it was very convenient to get here and I heard it had a good reputation. MAXINE: I wanted to get into Public Services because I really want to help people because I want to be a Paramedic. My favourite thing about doing the course well I like going on the trips, when we went camping with the army I liked doing that because we got to do loads of activities. JILL: We work with lots of external partners. Our main links are with The Army, The Navy, The RAF, The Royal Marines on the military side. And then for the emergency services side we have very close ties with the Police here in Durham and also the Durham and Darlington fire service and the Paramedics based within the NHS Trust. We also have links with the prison service, particularly over at Durham and in addition to that we have done some work with Coastguards and other partner agencies such as Durham County Council. Which again is all designed to benefit the student's overall experience whilst on the course. We provide support to the army administering a thing called the Further Education Bursary Scheme, which enables young people to study whilst they're actually earning money and then move onto a career within the army. And likewise we have a similar arrangement with the RAF and the Navy. STEPHEN: When I first started this course I wasn't interested in Politics, but now I've been through the Politics unit and I find Politics a lot more interesting now and I want to know more about it. And its encouraged me to start voting in the system as well.
