I’ve been wanting to cover this—one of my very favorite songs—from the beginning. I had to carefully set it aside, seeing how I couldn’t get through it without completely welling up. I’m not so sure why this was the one to hit me so hard… Maybe it’s all the seemingly small things that really don’t feel small at all—knowing when it’s time to start over, to turn the page, and somehow finding a way to make peace with it, or at least in the best way we can. Sometimes you have to choose it, and sometimes it’s chosen for you. It’s never easy (at least for me). It’s finding your voice again when it has a history of being easily lost… I am a lover of words, even though they don’t always come easily to me—especially the spoken kind. (I’m still trying to figure the “why” on that one too.) I know I’ve mentioned this before, but just shy of a year ago, I was on the fence, wondering if I had it in me to really pursue music—to actually try, instead of relying on other people to pave my musical path for me. (For the record, I do feel incredibly grateful and lucky that that worked out as well as it did for as long as it did, by the way.) I started posting these covers as a sort of last-ditch effort before deciding if my music had run its course. Almost seems a little silly now… The connections and friendships I’ve made here are the proof—and the pudding—that I made the right choice. I am so appreciative of the shared stories, donations, and everything in between—each one gives me the opportunity, motivation, inspiration, and push to keep making more music♥️.
