The word 'legendary' seems to apply to just about everything these days, but in describing Roy Goodman's performance in the Miserere, it is accurate to a fault....in my opinion it has never been bettered. His performance is also in the rare pantheon of recordings which have never been out of the record companies catalogue. Recorded in March 1963 and released on the LP 'Evensong for Ash Wednesday' with David Willcocks conducting the choir of King's College, Cambridge. Roy Goodman later wrote 'As a teenager I was really embarrassed at such notoriety, but I now feel very proud to have been part of a performance which has given such pleasure to so many people.' We introduce this legendary performance with Roy Goodman himself talking to Sir David Willcocks, taken from the radio documentary 'Miserere' broadcast February 2006, which is then followed by the complete performance of the work. We have only used a very brief section of this fascinating documentary in which Roy Goodman journeys to Rome to unravel the mysteries surrounding Gregorio Allegri 's iconic Lenten choral. The entire documentary will be available on our Youtube Music Channel in a few days time and is well worth a listen. From King's chorister (2nd boy on right of photo) to musician of international status, read about Roy Goodman on his website. http://www.roygoodman.com/Roy_Goodman...
