What makes Greek tragedy speak across millennia? Simon Goldhill and Josephine Quinn take us into the fierce world of Athenian drama, where gods, humans, and passions collide, and every choice carries weight. Timeless stories of love, power, and revenge, a session which explores why these ancient plays still challenge, haunt, and inspire. Simon Goldhill is Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge. His books have been translated into thirteen languages and have won three international prizes. He has broadcast widely on radio and television around the world. His most recent book, Queer Cambridge, was a TLS Book of the Year for 2025. Josephine Quinn holds the Chair in Ancient History at the University of Cambridge. She has been a Fellow at the Getty Villa and the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library. Her books include In Search of the Phoenicians (2018) and How the World Made the West (2024).
