Illustrated Journal Vol 2 of 50 Before 50 (Flip-through)

During the year before I turned 50, I did a "50 Before 50" project. In part, it involved a list of 50 very carefully thought-out and selected things to do and an illustrated journal in which I tracked the "doing" of those things and recorded the year. As part of the illustrated documentation, I also drew a self-portrait each week. The flip-through in this video is journal 2 from the year. It goes from February of that year through June. This journal also coincided with the start of the pandemic, and I think this journal looks the way it does in part because of what was happening in the world in those early months of it. Ultimately, volume 2 surprised me in flipping back through. I wasn't formally doing illustrateyourweek in this one. That started in the next one. It surprises me to look back just two sketchbooks ago and realize how much creative "time" has elapses and how much my own approach has evolved and solidified. I continued the weekly self-portraits for a second year after this one and am now in year 3. The illustrated journal process grew into the #illustrateyourweek project that I do and lead. Alcohol markers do bleed through. The paper is off-white. But, by far, it has been the best sketchbook I've ever used for this kind of illustrated journal work.
