When fully fueled, Starship’s immense capacity could carry hundreds of tons of cargo or large crews to distant destinations. There, it could deliver vital equipment, return extensive sample collections, or even lay the groundwork for humanity’s first off-world bases. These capabilities position Starship as a game-changer in space travel—but only if reliable refueling is mastered. Without it, its potential remains out of reach. SpaceX faces the challenge of making this a reality and is exploring two main strategies: direct Starship-to-Starship refueling in orbit or building an orbital fuel depot. It's mind-blowing! New Starship Refueling Method Revealed, Never Seen Before... In the first approach, two Starships would launch in quick succession. The primary spacecraft, dubbed the Starship Target, would enter orbit first, followed closely by a Starship Tanker. Traveling at speeds up to 20,000 km/h, the two would perform a high-stakes rendezvous to dock and transfer fuel. This could involve a large transfer tube—about 50 cm wide—and various methods are under consideration. A pump system offers reliability but adds complexity and weight. Alternatively, the spacecraft’s motion could drive the transfer, though this is less predictable.
