For Maeta, it all started with Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love." “I remember it came on MTV Top 20 Countdown and I just wanted to be her so bad.” Like many of us, the 21-year-old Illinois native's career started rolling when covers posted on the 'Gram gained traction; people loved hearing her low-key spins on Drake’s “Take Care” and Kehlani’s “Toxic.” Around the same time, she began drawing lyrics from her romantic relationships. Those original songs went up on Soundcloud, and more heads turned her way. Confidence was her main artistic attribute and signature message.
