We visit Kevin Tetz at Paintucation and he showed us his latest build . This car came straight from Derek Bieri at Vice Grip Garage via a trade (an inline-6 from a '67 Mustang for this dead roller) – it was a rusty, overlooked parts car with rectangular tail lights, big bumpers, and major rot. Kevin's resurrecting it into a badass 1970-style split-bumper RS clone with round tail lights (the iconic look!), back-halved floors, clean welds (lap/butt, no heavy Bondo), rolled edges for 10-11" tires without mini-tubbing, and smart budget tricks like a $120 Harbor Freight spot welder and garden-sprayer epoxy. He's building it real for home garage guys, weekend warriors, and father-son projects – preserving structure by doing one panel at a time, showing mistakes/fixes, and proving body/paint skills are learnable "one bite at a time" after 25+ years with Paintucation. Parallels our $5K '68 Camaro series perfectly: use leftovers, sweat equity, community donations, dedicate time (one full day a week), and get a fun driver without excuses or big bucks.Tour highlights: weld details, why no big brakes/mini-tub, factory primer surprises on solid bones, market insight (rollers $6-8K, finished $15K+ – better to build!), and why converting '74-'81 overlooked cars is genius for that classic small-back-window vibe. Huge thanks to Kevin for the inspiration – follow his Garbage Camaro series on Paintucation: https://www.paintucation.com/ Shoutout to Tim's Strange Motion podcast too!Subscribe for more shop visits, budget builds, and classic muscle car stories!
