This is a memoir about your twenties, falling in love, getting dumped, getting drunk, feeling lonely and slowly realising something important: Your best girlfriends are the real love story of your life! The book follows Dolly from her teenage years to her turning thirty. But it’s not written in a neat timeline. Instead, it’s a collage of memories, stories, emails, lists, recipes, texts, exactly how our twenties actually feel, messy and emotional. The core relationship is Dolly’s friendship with her best friend, Farly. We see bad dates, bad breakups, career struggles, jealousy, grief and through it all, their friendship. What I appreciated most? The honesty. Dolly talks openly about body image issues, disordered eating, therapy, jealousy, and emotional messiness without trying to look perfect. But here’s where it didn’t fully work for me. The book comes from a very specific place, upper-middle-class, white, London life. If you’re an Indian woman or grew up middle-class, a lot of it may feel alien. The author often assumes her experiences are universal, but they’re not! Well-written and emotionally honest, but not universally relatable
