Landing at 11:14 am, a young eagle visited the Surrey Reserve nest. This video provides highlights from the visit. The eagle is thought to be around five years old due to the dark markings on the head and around the face. The eagle puttered around the nest moving nesting materials and sticks. Also possibly the eagle had recently eaten as was feaking their beak and had a crop drop. During the visit, the eagle became interested in the cam movement but didn't seem to disturb the visit. While on the left support perch, the young eagle enjoy some time by watching and preening their feathers. The young bird flew at 12:06 pm. We sincerely hope to see more of this beautiful eagle in days to come. Of note: Brit and Rey have not returned to their nest so far this season. It is unknown if they will and possibly have built an alternate nest in the area. It is not known the why they have not returned; possibly due to the tragedy in the loss of their two chicks to H5 Avian Influenza, the loss of favorite roosting trees or the interference of land development close to the nest tree. Needless to say, we are heartbroken due to these events. Information about their season for 2024-2025 can be found on the Hancock Wildlife Foundation forum.
