"These Are the Stars" was composed by Robyn Butterfield Buttars as an expression of gratitude for America and its service members. The work received its World Premiere on Veteran’s Day 2025 in a special performance by the American Festival Chorus and the Utah State University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Craig Jessop, with Tanner Doyle as soloist. The arrangement and orchestration are by Kurt Bestor, based on an original arrangement by Daniel Blomberg. Dr. Jessop noted: "'These Are the Stars: A Tribute to America's Heroes' is a deeply moving and beautifully crafted work that honors our veterans with dignity, sincerity, and genuine emotional power. Robyn's writing speaks directly to both performers and audiences, offering lyrical choral lines, a thoughtfully integrated orchestral palette, and a narrative arc that is profoundly human and accessible. From the podium, the piece is a joy to shape, and in performance it creates a powerful moment of reflection and gratitude that audiences receive with unmistakable warmth and reverence." This work is well suited for Veteran’s Day, Fourth of July, Military Appreciation Month, and programs commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. SPECIAL THANKS With deep gratitude, special thanks to Dr. Craig Jessop, Utah State University, the American Festival Chorus, and Elaine Olson for their vision, leadership, and support in bringing this world premiere to life. Their dedication to musical excellence and to honoring America’s heroes made this performance possible.
