Big VIII League Centennial hosting Roosevelt Wednesday night set the stage for a Big VIII League clash. The Huskies were looking to snap a 3 game losing streak against the Mustangs that dates back to the 2023-24 season where both teams split the season series. Centennial led by Stanford bound senior Isaiah Rogers who finished with a game high 30 points, looked great in the first quarter with the Huskies hitting on four threes in the quarter. Josh Agbo and Rogers both had 6 points in the quarter as Centennial led 19-13 after one. Rogers three point basket in transition gave the Huskies a 26-14 2nd quarter lead, their biggest of the game. That’s when Roosevelt went on a 21-6 run to close out the half and the Mustangs took a 35-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. Centennial Head Coach Josh Giles lit a fire under his team at the break as the Huskies scored 7 straight to start the 3rd quarter. The dogfight was on as both teams were trading punches the rest of the way. Neither teams could get any separation as the score changed hands multiple times. Back to back threes by Karter Butler gave Centennial some breathing room in the 4th 57-51 but Roosevelt wouldn’t go away. Haggins was tremendous in the 4th quarter scoring 12 of his team high 23 points in the final frame. The Huskies Jayden Yim who struggled from deep most of the game hit back to back threes to extend the Centennial lead 64-57. Haggins got Roosevelt to within 1 point 68-67 until a Rogers layup and a tip-in by Jaiyden Smith sent the Huskies lead back to 5 points with under a minute to play. Sloan Harris (15 points) hit a step back three to cut the lead to two points 74-72 but Yim and Rogers went a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe with the game on the line to seal the win 78-75 as they beat Roosevelt ending the Huskies 3 game drought against the Mustangs.
