She first came to international attention when she sang the title role in Frédéric Mitterrand's 1995 film adaptation of Madama Butterfly and went on to an international career both in opera and on the concert stage. Madame Butterfly is an opera in three acts (originally two acts) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.
