John Thornton Tribute, Richard Armitage in North and South 2004 This is my most favorite film of all time. The members there have been great friends, helped me through very difficult times in my life, make me laugh all the time, share their own lives with me and are always there to lean on. It's wonderful to know that someone I've never met, half way around the world, really cares. Furthermore, the part of John Thornton was played to absolute perfection by Richard Armitage. It follows the story of Margaret Hale (Daniela Denby-Ashe), a young woman from southern England who has to move to the North after her father decides to leave the clergy. The family struggles to adjust itself to the industrial town's customs, especially after meeting the Thorntons, a proud family of cotton mill owners who seem to despise their social inferiors. The story explores the issues of class and gender, as Margaret's sympathy for the town mill workers conflicts with her growing attraction to John Thornton (Richard Armitage).
