We are proud to present tmixʷ: A Holistic Commitment to Our Forests, a documentary created in collaboration with Ntityix Resources LP. Filmed in the Okanagan region of British Columbia, on the traditional lands of the Syilx Okanagan people, this video highlights the deep connection between Indigenous forestry professionals and the land. The documentary follows the dedicated workers and leaders of Ntityix Resources, a Westbank First Nation-owned forestry company established in 2006. Their approach to forestry blends traditional knowledge with modern practices, ensuring a balance between economic opportunity and environmental stewardship. Ntityix is committed to supporting local contractors, employment, and reinvesting revenue back into the land to promote long-term sustainability. A core guiding principle in their work is their Seven Generations Plan, which focuses on: Goal 1: Sustain the Forest as a Life Support System for tmixʷ (all living things including people) Goal 2: Care for and where possible improve siwɬkʷ (water) Quality and Supply. Goal 3: Care for and where possible improve specific Wildlife Habitat Quality and Supply. Goal 4: Conserve, Protect, and Improve culturally important and endangered plants and plant communities. Goal 5: Ensure Community Benefits from the Forest are Reasonable, Fair, and Sustainable. Goal 6: Restore Damaged Ecosystems, Improve Forest Health, and Reduce Destructive Wildfire. The documentary also addresses the growing threat of wildfires in the Okanagan, made worse by decades of fire suppression. It highlights the importance of Indigenous-led land management practices, such as controlled burns, in restoring forest resilience. Through compelling interviews and on-the-ground footage, tmixʷ: A Holistic Commitment to Our Forests highlights Ntityix Resources' leadership and dedication to sustainable forest stewardship. It stands as a testament to innovation, resilience, and their welcomed inclusion and influence in the Canadian forestry industry.
