Mark Albert Review: Made to Order, in America, Under $300?!

FULL REVIEW + PICTURES: https://stridewise.com/mark-albert-bo... 11 WAYS TO SAVE MONEY ON BOOTS: https://stridewise.com/best-boot-deals 00:25 Mark Albert Brand 01:23 Mark Albert First Glance 02:13 Mark Albert Leather 03:11 Mark Albert Sole 04:00 Mark Albert Sizing & Fit 05:07 Mark Albert Price 05:52 Mark Albert Pros 06:40 Mark Albert Cons Mark Albert Boots are sold in a crowdfunded, pre-sale model (similar to Kickstarter), to keep costs low, especially for an American-made boot. I’m looking at the Outrider, one of their most popular, which I took on a family trip to Wales. Could a boot this cheap still feel expensive? Let’s check it out. FIRST GLANCE Grungey, oil tanned leather Vaguely vintage military look 5 inches tall Vibram outsole This is the Outrider in “waxy distress leather” - a grungy, oil-tanned beauty that just begs to be kicked around and beaten up a bit. Vaguely vintage military and about 5 inches tall, it’s got 5 eyelets and a pair of speed hooks, plus extremely cool rawhide laces. The 360-degree Goodyear welt attaches the upper to a slim but grippy Vibram outsole. SEE MY 5 FAVORITE BOOTS OF ALL TIME:    • THE 5 BEST MEN'S BOOTS YOU CAN BUY - ...   LEATHER Waxy distressed leather" Comes from Tasman Tannery in Maine Heavy and oily Strong pull up; color varies Condition with leather balm from Smith's or Blackrock This pull up leather comes from Tasman Tannery in Maine; 5.5 oz. American-tanned leather (to be precise) that’s beautifully supple and very oily. It’s hot stuffed with different oils and colored waxes, which gives it a rich, deep color when you wear it, with a lot of highs and lows. A potential gripe is that the color changes a lot around the toe break, where the leather bends there all day. The oil is pushed away from the crease which can leave the color inconsistent. On the other hand, it’s part of the character of the boot to look a little scuffed and uneven. SEE MY 5 BEST LEATHER CONDITIONERS:    • The 5 Best Leather Conditioners for B...   LEATHER CARE If it really bothers you Mark Barbera recommends a good conditioner like Smith’s Leather Balm or Blackrock’s Leather Balm to even out the color. Generally, though, the leather is oily enough that it doesn’t really need conditioner. BUY BLACKROCK HERE: https://amzn.to/2UjIM31 SOLE Tough Vibram 430 sole Good grip, a little luggy on heel 360 degree flat welt Goodyear welt construction Poron and leather in the insole The famously tough Vibram 430 sole provides a great grip while maintaining a nice slim profile (a bit of lug at the heel, but that’s to be expected). The outsole, which is 10 mm thick, also has a stacked leather heel and a solid steel shank, and is attached to the upper with a 360-degree Goodyear welt. Uniquely, Mark Albert uses a combination of poron and full-grain leather on the insole, which is designed to add comfort and longevity as the poron naturally breaks down over time. FIT & SIZING Order half a size down Great shock absorption Nice arch support Contours the foot well Order a half size down. I’m 11.5 on a Brannock device and the 11 fit me real well. Right now, they come up to size 13 in D and EE widths. They're very comfy, overall. The poron insole adds a lot of nice shock absorption, plus there’s good arch support, and the shape contours to the foot really beautifully, which is rarer than you might think. THE BEST BOOTS FOR UNDER $200:    • THE 7 BEST MEN'S BOOTS FOR UNDER $200   PRICE $259 with free shipping. Really a great value because of their made-to-order approach, which keeps costs down - these American-made boots could go toe-to-toe with Red Wing and yet they’re well under $300. The downside is it might take a month or two to get them after you’ve ordered, though you might get lucky and find your size and style in stock on their website. PROS Lightweight Comfortable, good arch support and cool leather/poron insole D and EE widths Made in the USA Really inexpensive CONS 6-8 week wait time Leather changes color at toebox crease A few loose threads   #markalbert #markalbertboots #stridewise #mtoboots
