(28 Sep 2000) Arabic/Nat XFA Clashes from the Al Aqsa mosque spread on Thursday from the Temple mount in Jerusalem to the East side of the city, as dozens of Palestinians threw stones at Israeli police. One woman was injured as the Palestinians threw stones at a passing bus at Sultan Suliman Street. Israeli policemen blocked the protesters, and stopped them from approaching towards the West side of the city. Two Palestinians were arrested. Earlier Thursday clashes erupted at the Al Aqsa mosque in the old city, moments after the leader of Israel's hardline opposition, Ariel Sharon, left the compound. Hundreds of Palestinians clashed with Israeli police, who fired rubber bullets and tear gas towards the crowd of protesters. Dozens of Israeli policemen and Palestinians were injured. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said Sharon's visit was "very dangerous" and that Arab and Islamic nations should "move very fast" in protecting the shrine.
