I started creating a list last week initially just for myself based on Gabriel Wyner’s 625 ‘Initial Vocabulary’ list that he provides in his book ‘Fluent Forever’ as a tool to help people start to get some foundational vocabulary under their belt in order to better one’s chances of ‘Comprehensible Input’ when learning a language. You can checkout the wordlist here http://stujay.com/wordlist/ I have taken his base list and added a few words and then created a table in Google Sheets across almost 30 languages. I initially used a rough ‘Google Translate’ function to populate very raw (and mostly incorrect) data. I am now calling out to language speakers everywhere to help crowd source the translation of these words so that this can be a valuable tool to language learners all over the world. I realise it’s not comprehensive and is very limited in scope. It is one of many tools that language learners should be using. Please email me at info@stujay.com if you would like to be a contributing editor. The complete language list now is: English (en), Thai (th), Lao (lo), Khmer (km), Myanmar (my), Hindi (hi), Urdu (ur), Chinese Trad (zh-tw), Chinese Simp (zh-CN), Chinese Pinyin, Cantonese Jyutping, Vietnamese (vi), Japanese (ja), Korean (ko), Latin (la), Spanish (es), Portuguese (pt), Italian (it), French (fr), Russian (ru), Polish (pl), Hungarian (hu), Finnish (fi), Indonesian (id), Javanese (jw), Sundanese (su), Tagalog (tl), Danish (da), Norwegian (no), Swedish (sv), Farsi (fa), Arabic (ar), Turkish (tr), Sanskrit, Greek (Classical), Greek (gr) Modern.
