This is a prisoner escort protective wristband which is used to protect the officer or private prisoner transport personnel's wrists. When people are going to court the prisoner is handcuffed in the front and then a separate pair of handcuffs couples one of the prisoners wrist's to the wrist of the prisoner escort person to prevent the prisoner from running off. Example image of one in use: https://i.imgur.com/tKUl0uy.png The problem is if a prisoner were to physically become forcefully uncooperative, the escort's wrists might get damaged in the fight. This protective wristband has good rigidity and serves to cushion any physical shock of the handcuff being yanked around forcefully. This also makes it easier for the prisoner escort to control the prisoner because they can pull the prisoner's wrist to attempt to "gain control" over the person which would also cause pain to the prisoner but not cause pain to the escort. I got 2 of them to see if they would be useful to protect my wrists when trying to repeatedly pick cuffs at odd angles etc, but unfortunately these protective leather wristbands alter the dynamic and serve to further reduce dexterity in the wrist, making picking a bit more difficult. They are also • not • super comfortable, though they do serve the purpose of strongly protecting the wrist of the wearer when a handcuff is placed over the top of it. Another point worth noting is larger capacity handcuffs work better with these in general, because the leather protective wrist strap does add additional bulk that the handcuff has to contend with. If you have smaller than average wrists, a normal TCH model 800 standard sized handcuff would be fine, but for anyone with average or large wrists, you will absolutely need to use a larger handcuff. This also means the maximum wrist size that the handcuff can accommodate will be lower than expected, because of having to accommodate for the added bulk from the leather. So for my purposes this purchase was a failure because the wider of a wrist strap you have around your wrist, the more that restricts your movement and if wearing rigid handcuffs with both wrists with a strap on, your arms are effectively stuck out almost completely perpendicular with your body and parallel with each other, which means it is VERY uncomfortable and you cannot see properly the keyholes.
