This summer, the Union of Black Artists Society will host a major event featuring the Wu-Tang Killer Bees, a group of rap artists affiliated with the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. Tara Taylor, event coordinator and co-founder of the Union of Black Artists Society, shared details about the upcoming event. The concert, set for July 13 at the Lighthouse Arts Center in Halifax, will include performances by Killer Army, Killah Priest, 9th Prince, Kinetic 9, Dom Pachino, and La the Darkman. Taylor explained that the idea for the concert originated from discussions with Obediya Jones-Darrell, a collaborator connected to the artists. Originally, a virtual roundtable discussion was planned, but it evolved into a full-fledged concert. The event aims to showcase local talent and demonstrate the Union's ability to host large-scale events, potentially attracting future funding. The concert will feature local acts Corey Writez and RealEyez, with potential appearances by artists from Atlanta, including Sixman and ChiChi. Additionally, a contest will be held to select another opening act from local talent. In the days leading up to the concert, the visiting artists will engage in various community activities. Kinetic 9 will participate in an axe-throwing event at Dartmouth's Timber Lounge, while Dom Pachino will meet with aspiring rappers in Mulgrave Park. Kinetic 9 will also lead a discussion on trauma in music, moderated by Kayla B., a local trauma specialist. The event not only promises an exciting musical experience but also supports future black community initiatives in Halifax. Proceeds will contribute to the development of a new theater and performance hall, further enriching the local cultural landscape. Tickets are available on the Union of Black Artists Society's website and the Lighthouse Arts Center.
