now this is halifax minster board telling us about the 12 bells which are johnston gillitston church bells which came from croyden the tenor bell is 28 cwt in d flat stuarts home tower where i ring on a friday eves 7 30 till 9 pm eve and sunday morning services quarter to 10 till 10 30 am sunday morning services no evening bellringing not any more maby accasonley like a quarter peal for 1 hour 49 mins on a sunday afternoon like tour of yorkshire or heritage day weekend or weddings these 14 bells are lovley to ring easy going the tenor bill bell goes brilliant when ringing the back 8 or 10 bells the bells sound alot louder so the wind carries the minsters bells up free school lane depanding on which way the wind is then you can hear the unick famous peal of big bells at halifax minster well the smaller ones arnt heard as often because of the traffic or the wind is in the wrong diretion so you dont hear the lighter bells maby if its a very still day like a sunday morning its very quiet then you can here the lighter 6 bells or it even depands on where you are to hear the minsters bells yes they are a nice peal of bells all came in 1951s yes by stuart mills the heavyst bellringer they used to practice wedsnday eves 730 till 9 pm years and years ago i had nowhere to practice on a friday eves for some time i used to ring at batley all saints 8 bells ground floor ring from 8pm till 9 30 pm but i found it to difficult to get back to halifax its quiet a way out from dewsbury is batley then i went bellringing at st martins church brighouse for a few years 8 bells not many busses after 9 0 clock then difficult routine buss services since from 1998 till 2021 then i have helped practice at new mill christ church with 6 bells another difficult church to travle to by bus from huddersfield to new mill 1 bus an hour so this is why i like to practice at halifax minster every friday eves only 20 mins from my house straight line from free school lane then past the bms then 3 pigions pub then its right at the very bottom of halifax town a lot more easy for me now if the weather is wet windy i sometimes catch the hubberton 577 of 574 tiger buses to halifax town to walk part way to the minster to ring those 2 busses stop right outside my house by united reformed church ok if the weather is fine then i will walk strait down to the minster other weeks depanding on the weather ok
