When the Corvette roadster prototype was first shown to the public at the GM Motorama in the New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel in January of 1953, no one expected that these cars would eventually become used for street racing in the year 2000. Today on the Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage we will be looking at the Model Car Garage - 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine Model Kit By AMT/ERTL. This model kit came out at a time when AMT, Revell, Monogram and Lindberg were competing with Tamiya Japan to build highly detailed and accurate plastic model kits. The AMT 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine is one of these kits and includes a separate frame, multi-piece interior with individual inner door panels, full out suspension components, and many other highly detailed parts. The AMT/ERTL 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine model car is made of semi-soft grey plastic and has a thick box. One very nice thing about AMT kits is that the body, chrome and clear parts are all in a separate bag to keep them from being scratched by other parts. Fortunately, the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine model kit by AMT/ERTL itself is not really that large. You basically get one option for building the kit, and that is as a street machine car. However, this model car is a ferocious beast equipped with a huge Chevy 454 big block. This engine consists of 21 pieces including a left and right hand side engine block and transmission, intake manifold, cylinder heads, valve covers, radiator hoses, 2-piece left and right hand side exhaust headers, distributor, oil filter, starter motor, alternator with mounting bracket, belts and pulleys, Holley Dominator carburetor and your choice of air cleaner or velocity stack. As you might expect from the AMT 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine model car, there are a number of chrome pieces. The chrome looks very well done and properly thick. I'd imagine that most of us will be using Bare Metal Foil to wrap those parts that have mold lines removed and the wealthy among you will take them to be re-chromed after you clean them up. This model car is not to be confused with the MPC (Sometimes branded as an AMT) 1957 Corvette Flip Nose dragster model car kit. The AMT 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Street Machine model car kit was created by modifying the AMT Chevrolet Corvette Fuel Injection model car kit first introduced in 1995. Therefore, the fit and finish of this model kit's parts and pieces is to the highest level of quality and will fit perfectly together. This is an excellent 110+ parts model kit and can only be perfected with some paint and Bare Metal Foil.
