Who do you think will win a fight to the death between a moose (eurasian elk) and a musk ox? In this episode we will compare these two animals and try to answer this question. It is a very interesting confrontation, so I advise you to watch the video until the end. It's worth it! Alces alces, commonly called Moose in North America and Eurasian Elk in Europe are the largest of all the deer species in the world and the tallest mammal in North America. Behind only the two species of bison, the moose is the second largest of extant terrestrial wildlife after the bisons in North America, Siberia, and Europe. The Moose or Eurasian elk should not be confused with North American Elk, Cervus Canadensis, which are a different species. In this video I will use the name from American English so as not to create confusion. Moose inhabit the northern parts of North America and Eurasia. They are limited to cool regions because of their large bodies, inability to sweat, and the heat produced by fermentation in their gut. An Ice Age relic, muskoxen have been wandering the Earth for over 600,000 years. They roamed the tundra with saber-tooth tigers, woolly mammoths, and other long extinct megafauna. Muskoxen live farther north than most other hoofed animals and are found in the Arctic tundra of Canada, Greenland, Russia, Sweden, Norway, and of course, Alaska. They are grazing animals, more closely related to sheep and goats than to oxen, their Latin name “ovibos” means literally "sheep-ox". The name musk ox comes from the strong scent emitted by males in the breeding season, though it is not actually musk. Muskoxen are social animals and much of the behavior is based on the harem breeding system. ----- Thanks https://mol.org/ for the maps with the animal spread area https://www.britannica.com/animal/moo... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/... https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muskox https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/... https://www.britannica.com/animal/mus... ----- #moose #muskox #elk
